About The Openwork Foundation

The Penny Group has been active supporters of The Openwork Foundation since our inception in 2010.

The Openwork Foundation aims to make a difference where it matters most.  The Foundation was set up in 1981 and works to support vulnerable adults and children in the UK and overseas, making a difference in local communities.  With over £21.5m donated over the years, the Foundation delivers grant, fundraising and volunteer programmes, designed to engage businesses, advisers and colleagues in The Openwork Partnership.

The Penny Group’s support for the Foundation

As well as regular monthly giving, TPG has organised and contributed to several initiatives over the years in support of the Foundation.  There have been bike rides: Lands End to John O’Groats, and 2011’s bike ride across Jordan that Adam Roberts and Mike Elworthy, both Partners at The Penny Group, completed.  Several marathons and 10ks have been run. The recent Vanguard Tough Mudder, in which team TPG battled through an unforgiving course to raise £1,865.  And in 2023 TPG partnered with The Felix Project, a London charity fighting hunger and food waste, organising volunteering days and proposing the charity for an Openwork grant, which it did receive to the tune of £15,000.

In January 2024 TPG’s Adam Roberts was invited to join the Board of Trustees.  “Given the closeness of the relationship we wanted to be more active in the decision making and our support for the Foundation, and so were delighted to be invited into the Board.  It is an honour to be seen as a value-add for the Foundation, and we are excited to contribute further to the great causes that the Foundation supports.”

National charity partners

As well as providing both sponsored and discretionary grants, The Openwork Foundation has national charity partners. These partners are supported financially, and also by building mutually beneficial relationships, sharing knowledge and best practice, and helping to raise awareness of their vital work.

The Foundation’s current national partners are:

Young Enterprise - a national charity which specialises in financial and enterprise education and is a trusted and valued provider of knowledge, resources and training to anyone teaching young people how to manage money. Young Enterprise works directly with young people, teachers, and volunteers, with the support of corporate partners, to build a successful and sustainable future for all young people.

Dementia UK – the UK’s only charity dedicated to supporting families affected by dementia, through dementia specialist Admiral Nurses. The Admiral Nurses work in a range of settings including out in the community, care homes, hospitals, hospices and on the charity’s Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline – a national service for anyone affected by dementia.
